I made this hat when I started volunteering at parkrun. If you've not come across parkrun before, it's a free, weekly 5k event that takes place on a Saturday morning at local parks all around the world.
(Check out parkrun.org.uk to find yours!) "parkrun is a positive, welcoming and inclusive experience where there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate".
Volunteers help to set up the course, marshal and record participants times and do all the other jobs that make each event happen. I thought a nice hat in parkrun colours (apricot to be exact) would be the perfect way to keep me warm on the cold January mornings.
The Tempest Beanie pattern by Amy Hanna of Above the Clouds Crochet is a free pattern on Ravelry. I love the textures the different stitches give and I had loads of mustard yarn left over from my Sensum Sweater project which was the perfect colour.
I hadn't made a hat for an adult before and I hardly ever make anything for myself so I was excited to give this a go.
The pattern was really clear and easy to follow and it worked up really quickly. I also got to relive a bit of my youth and made a pom pom the old fashioned way with cardboard circles!
I really enjoyed making this project and have had lots of lovely complements on my new hat.
Do you have a favourite hat pattern?
